Match Report – 1st XI Vs Pirbright 1st XI

Defeat for Milford 1st XI.

Milford managed to get a team out after one of the most difficult weeks of the season. They were inserted on a good track with Pirbright looking for a big win after their loss the week before. Ian Milton bowled with his usual enthusiastic manner and kept going for 16 overs taking 4 wickets. He was joined in opening the bowling by East Molesey Surrey Championship 1st XI player Andrew Westphal who looked a class above everyone with the bat and ball, making big difference between the teams. James Norris and Matt Evans batted well as Milford declared on 126 for 9 after 46 overs.

Pirbright’s reply started badly as they lost the dangerous Khan to a lively Kukla but that man Andrew Westphal came in playing straight and hitting the bad balls. Milford couldn’t get rid of him and he saw them through to victory. Chris Kukla bowled well for Milford.

Pirbright look certain to go up now and good luck to them in Div 2 next season.

Match Report – 1st XI Vs Shalford 1st XI

On a clear sunny day cricket got underway with Milford against Shalford, Milford winning the toss and electing to field.  Milford put on some early pressure bowling tight lines, restricting Shalfords run rate.    Unsworth stepped up for Shalford, despite giving Milford some chance he pushed on to top score with 90.  A blazing display from Shalford number ten Gover helped to add a quick 26 to their final score.  Shalford finished with 185 for 9.

Milford got off to a slow reply but the middle order upped the pace making inroads to the target including a quick 37 from Gwilliam and great support from Norris, Payne and Murray.  Good bowling and regular wickets from Shalford halted the assault with Milford managing to defy their attack and hang on for the draw.

Match Report – 1st XI Vs Tongham 1st XI

Rain stops play.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat by Tongham, Milford started positively. Probyn and Cole punishing anything short or wide. Once Probyn went for 17 Cole was joined by Crumbie and both batted excellently. Crumbie fell for a well paced 44 and Cole ended on 79no.  Milford had scored 204-3 in 45 overs.

Knowing rain was a possibility Tongham pushed Meyer up the order and it started well for them. He was his usually aggressive self as he and Shane Carrington scored quickly. When Meyer went for 44 Carrington (61no) was joined by Farriar (12no).

Tongham were well placed at 124-1 in the 21st over when the rain arrived to call a premature end to the game.

Match Report – 1st XI Vs Frensham 3rd XI

A solid performance from Milford.

Milford were inserted to bat on a glorious day with a good looking track. 60 for the first wicket between Probyn and Andrews set the basis of the Milford total. Good bowling in the middle by Stubbs and Nash helped to contain Milford but some good shots and luck got Milford to 172 from 45 overs. A par score.

Frensham never got a chance to get going as they lost regular early wickets with good bowling from Haycox and Laney. Crounch punished the bad balls and looked to get Frensham back in the game and at one point they were well placed but late wickets from Milford prevented them getting near their target.

A good game played in good spirits!

Match Report – 1st XI Vs Chiddingfold 2nd XI

Success for Milford 1st XI.

Chiddingfold lost a crucial toss and were put into bat by Milford on a drying track. Early inroads were made by Askew and Laney putting Chiddingfold in trouble at 1 for 3. A strong partnership of over 50 by Malpas Sands & Thorpe turned the game in their favour but after they were out Chiddingfold could only manage 119 all out, with Matt McConnell taking a wicket on his Milford debut.

In reply, Bertie Probyn started well and looked good until he lost his wicket. Crumbie and Gwilliam then took Milford to 48 for 1 with some good shots and some good misses. A mini collapse then took Milford to 77 for 5 but step forward the experienced Mike Payne leading the charge to the end joined by the stylish Sam Dick.

A good win for Milford against a very competitive side.
